A graduate from Banaras Hindu University in Astrology, he did his post graduation in Vedic Astrology from the same university. He was selected, as National Scholar by University Grants Commission of the Government of India in 1992 to conduct research in Vedic astrology at Banaras Hindu University. He was also the Asst. Editor for the Almanac (Viswa Panchanga) published regularly by Banaras Hindu University. He was awarded his PhD in Vedic Astrology by Banaras Hindu University in 1996.
